You Can Too!

We live in a world of extraordinarily generous people.  We constantly witness acts of kindness, large and small.  Regularly we have conversations with friends and family members who have that desire to reach out and help others. But how to get started?

Within Your Own Community

Always look for opportunities within your own communities and geographic areas first.  Money can be wasted on postage or long commutes getting items from point A to point B.  There may be a handful of organizations close by that you aren't even aware of.  Look online or ask around to find out about existing efforts.

What if you don't see any pressing needs within your community or immediate area?  Here's where it can get interesting.  All it really takes is one contact to get connected with the vast network of those in need.  Strike up a conversation with someone new.  Get to know people around you.  You might be surprise by friends or acquaintances who are already connected.

Think outside the box.  If immediate needs are being met within your community, think about other needs that may still benefit from your care and attention.  Is there a language barrier between neighbors?  Is there a lack of education regarding a difficult subject?

Don't be afraid to fail.  You may come up with some fail-proof ideas and still face difficulties.  Pay attention to those you're trying to benefit.  Some of the best ideas will come from them.

Other Opportunities

Once you've looked into the needs of your own community and you still have enthusiasm to help others, start researching national and international organizations and find ways to contribute.  Small contributions can make a big difference.  And remember, a small amount to you may be a huge amount to someone else.
